Decorating Ideas for a Teenage Boy's Room With Cars & Trucks

Decorating a teenager's bedroom can be tricky because you don't want to make it look like it's for a little child, but you don't want to make it look too mature either. The key to decorating a teenage boy's bedroom with a car and truck theme is to use furniture and accessories that are age-appropriate.
  1. Walls

    • Use navy blue, dark green, red or gray paint on the bedroom walls for a sporty look. Frame posters of your teenager's favorite cars and trucks, and hang them on the walls. Hang hubcaps, which you can find in junk shops, auto repair shops or antique stores, on one of the walls in the bedroom as accent pieces. Alternatively, paint the walls of the bedroom with a mural of a car scene or a truck on the road. Another idea is to have a wall poster made with a large-format printing service in a design of your choice, and use it to cover an entire wall.

    Bedding

    • Most bedding with images of cars and trucks are made for small children, so instead, use bedding with a black-and-white checkered pattern, like a checkered racing flag. Use black fitted sheets, for example, with a white duvet and checkered pillowcases. Alternatively, you can always match your bedding to your walls. Mix and match bedding, such as using red sheets with blue pillowcases, for example.

    Furniture

    • Stay away from beds made to look like cars since these are catered to children. Instead, have a glass side or coffee table custom-made with a base from a part of a car, such as the engine. You can also use the seat from an actual car as a chair in the bedroom. Alternatively, decorate with wooden furniture, such as bedside tables, a dresser and a desk in a dark or white finish. Decorate a teenager's bedroom with denim, blue, red, green, gray or black bean bags.

    Accessories

    • Accessorize a teenager's bedroom with his collection of toy cars and trucks. If he doesn't have a collection, help him start one by displaying vintage car and truck models on a bookshelf. Another idea is to display car tools in a shadow box and to stack auto magazines in one corner of the room. Other accessories you can decorate the room with are checkered flags, a decorative, vintage gas pump, metal toolboxes or a stack of clean, unused tires.
