Victorian

• Victorian decorated homes possess elaborately carved furniture made from wood and upholstery fabrics. Chandeliers are the primary lighting source, and the walls are decorated with carved wood paneling. A more modern Victorian style will use whites and creams in the decorating. Bookcases and portraits are also essential wall decorations.

Mission

• In some parts of England, monks were creating their own unique decorating style. Mission-style decorating is the exact opposite of Victorian. Furniture is typically bare wood or suede, and tables, chimneys and other interior pieces all emphasize a natural, rustic look. Earth tones are used to decorate the walls, and candelabras line the walls.

Edwardian

• Though Edwardian decorating only filled a very short time period, 1850 to 1905, it is still a distinct decorating style. Edwardian decorating is comprised of wood carved with grape vines or feminine figures. The rooms have more natural and less artificial light. Walls and wall hangings are meant to be light and airy.

Industrial

• During the mid to late 19th century, wood furniture became available to the masses. An industrial look is filled with squared furniture with little to no carving. Wall decorations include bookshelves and pictures of Industrial authors. Rooms are kept simple for the most part, and geometrical shapes are ideal.
