Lighting is an important factor in any bedroom decor. For an Asian-inspired teen room you can hang paper lanterns from the ceiling. Large round lanterns that plug in can hang from a hook over the bed to create a gentle glow of light. Choose low-wattage bulbs or colored bulbs for a calming effect.
Hang only one or two art pieces on your teen's wall. For an Asian-inspired room it is important not to cram too much into one space. The goal is to create a spacious environment that allows your teen to think and feel. You want to create a space that clears the mind. Each accessory should have its own spot and not be placed beside another item. Remove everything from the room that your teen has outgrown or no longer uses. Place throw pillows on the floor for sitting or create and entire area with throw pillows. A large hand fan can be spread on the wall to add Asian style.
Choose low furniture over large bulky pieces. Place a mattress on the floor or choose a low platform bed. Select other low pieces for the room, such as a long entertainment center or bookshelf. Minimize furniture as well as accessories to keep clutter at a minimum. Black lacquer furniture matches well with most other colors, and the shiny black furniture adds a touch of modern style. If you choose natural wood, choose light pine or bamboo to accent ther decor and lighten up the room.
Select your teen's favorite colors to decorate an Asian-inspired room. Try to encourage bright colors or earth tones. If your teen loves the color black allow her to choose black furniture. Accent the black with a cherry red. Paint the walls tea green and use green accent pillows on the bed. Choose jade or pale yellow if your teen likes pastel colors. Use orange and purple for the teen that loves bold colors.
