Decoration Ideas for a Boy's Bedroom for Fishing

For a little boy who enjoys spending time at the lake and showing off his latest catch, a fishing-themed bedroom may be right up his alley. With a color palette composed of earth tones and shades of blue, you can recreate the feel of an afternoon at the lake right inside his bedroom. However, to keep the look authentic, the right decorations are essential. You can choose from several different options that add fun and character to the space so your son winds up with a room where he loves to spend time.
  1. Fishing Poles

    • For a truly authentic look for your little boy's fishing theme bedroom, vintage fishing poles are a must-have decoration. You can use them in place of curtain rods on the windows, or mount a couple to the headboard for a fun look. Fishing poles also make simple wall decorations. You can mount a rack and fill it with poles, or just crisscross a couple on the wall using hooks to support them.

    Fishing Nets

    • Fishing nets can make fun decorations in your little boy's fishing-themed bedroom as well. You can hang them on the wall, and twine plastic fish, crabs and lobsters in the netting so it looks like they've just been pulled from the ocean. Fishing nets also make good valances if you drape them over the top of the windows and pair them with dark blinds or curtains so they stand out. You can also pin them around your son's bed frame and attach plastic fish for another easy headboard idea.

    Stencils

    • Stencils are an effective tool for any theme bedroom because they come in a variety of shapes and patterns. Visit your local craft store to find a few fish-shaped stencils that you like. You can use the stencils to create a border around the top of the wall or a painted chair rail in the center. For a more whimsical look, create an accent wall by covering an entire wall with stencils in a random pattern. Depending on the colors your son prefers, you can fill the stencils in with bright colors like orange, turquoise and red to mimic tropical fish, or use browns and grays to capture the look of freshwater fish.

    Mural

    • If you want to drive the fishing theme home in a big way, a mural is an ideal wall decoration for your son's bedroom. You can purchase premade murals that feature fishing, beach or nautical scenes, which may come as panels that you install on the wall or with a self-adhesive back so you can hang the mural like wallpaper. However, you can personalize your son's mural by painting it yourself. If you don't have strong artistic skills, use an overhead projector to project an image from a book or online source on the wall, so you only have to trace it with a pencil and fill it in with paint.
