DIY Dinosaur Bedroom

Planning a nursery can be overwhelming with all the baby supplies and themes available. Older children look for a fun room plan that matches their likes and dislikes. As an adult, finding a unique bedroom decor is sometimes difficult, too. However, if you are planning a dinosaur bedroom for you, your child or a new baby, the planning can be less stressful if you know a few decorating ideas to begin with.

Instructions

    • 1

Paint your walls a solid color. Choose a color that matches the bedding you are using. Alternatively, choose a second color from the bedding and paint an accent wall. For example, if the bedding is green and yellow, paint three walls green and one yellow. Let the painted walls dry overnight.

    • 2

Project an image of a dinosaur on the wall using an overhead projector. Rent a projector from an audio-visual company or borrow one from a local school. Choose an image from a free photo-sharing site or from a coloring book. Copy the image onto transparency paper at a copy store.

    • 3

Trace the projected image on the painted wall. Use chalk for the tracing, since you can wash it away after you finish the mural.

    • 4

Paint inside the traced images. Use wall paint or acrylic paint. Paint solid, base colors first. Once the first coat dries overnight, add details and touchups. Allow the additional painted details to dry overnight. Wash away any chalk lines using a damp rag.

    • 5

Place the furniture in the room. Choose the right placement for the size room you have. For example, a narrow room may need the bed at one end, away from the door, in order for people to have space to move around.

    • 6

Hang shelves and curtains. Choose curtains that match the bedding by using a solid color or choose a patterned fabric that complements the bedding.

    • 7

Create a custom lamp. Attach a dinosaur stencil to the side of a cloth lampshade using tape. Use a dry paintbrush to paint a solid color onto the stencil using acrylic paint. Let the paint dry overnight. Remove the stencil and place the lampshade on the lamp.

    • 8

Add decorations on the shelves, dressers and the walls. For example, place paintings of dinosaurs on the wall and place the custom lamp on a dresser. Place small toy dinosaurs or model fossils on shelves.

    • 9

Place a dinosaur or dinosaur print rug on the floor.
