Fun Ideas for Decorating a Girl's College House

For many students, college is their first chance to have complete control over how their living space will be decorated. If you are moving into a shared house with fellow college students, decorating your home will make it more comfortable for relaxing, studying, and hosting parties. Whether you live in a sorority house or just a shared off-campus home with several roommates, there are many ways to give your home a splash of college spirit.
  1. A Splash of Color

    • Select paint or accent furniture that reflects the pride you feel in being enrolled in your college or university. Use your college colors (or sorority colors) as a starting point, and give the walls a fresh coat of color. To avoid being too monochromatic, consider painting the walls and trim in your school colors, and using your sorority colors to inspire your choice of accent furniture, rugs, or lampshades. If you are a Greek house, make sure to incorporate Greek letters in some way. And if you are die-hard sports fans, paint your school mascot or crest on the wall to tie it all together.

    Make It Personal

    • Dedicate one corridor or one room in the house to fostering a sense of community. Hang corkboards or whiteboards and invite everyone in the house to hang up photos of themselves, their family or recent trips they've taken. Encourage housemates to hang up interesting articles from magazines or artwork that they have created. By providing a place for everyone to share what's important to them, each resident will have a chance to get to know their fellow housemates.

    Fashion Icons

    • Every young woman in college has at least one celebrity they look to as a style icon. Whether its the classic glamour of Marilyn Monroe or the sultry appeal of Beyonce, you can style a bathroom or lounge in the style of these classic paragons of beauty. Hang posters or magazine clipping collages of beautiful, famous women in bathrooms, lounges, bedrooms or any room in the house where you gather together to get ready for a big night on the town.

    Themed Bedrooms

    • A great way to give a college house some personality is to give each bedroom a theme. Whether your inspiration comes from nature, pop culture, or films, having unique bedrooms gives the home more visual interest and can make each girl feel more at home. Ideas might include a tropical paradise theme, an Oceans Eleven theme, or an Amy Winehouse theme. Let your imagination run wild and come up with a themed room idea that's all your own.
