Damask Bedroom Ideas

When it comes to creating an elegant, sophisticated look for your bedroom, few patterns can top damask. Woven from a blend of silk, cotton, linen, wool and other fibers, damask patterns are highly detailed and provide a rich, sumptuous feel to any room. You can incorporate damask into your bedroom's decor in a variety of ways, but it's usually best to focus on one key element so your room doesn't become overwhelmed by the pattern.
  1. Wallpaper

    • For an elegant look in your bedroom, consider hanging damask patterned wallpaper. You can find the pattern in a variety of colors, though black and white is usually the most traditional. If you find that color palette too bold for your walls, try wallpaper that features a tone-on-tone damask pattern for a more subtle look. You can also achieve an understated look by applying the wallpaper to a single wall to create an accent wall, which is an ideal spot for your bed if you want to draw attention to its design. If you decide to use damask wallpaper, you should limit the use of the pattern in other aspects of your room’s décor, so the space doesn’t feel too busy.

    Stencils

    • You may like the idea of a damask pattern on your walls, but find the idea of a floor-to-ceiling wallpaper pattern a bit much. Stencils are an ideal alternative for adding the design to your walls. You can control how dramatic the pattern is by choosing paint shades that all belong to the same family for a subtle wall treatment or changing the size of the stencils. Use smaller stencils to create a damask border along the top of the walls, or opt for a large pattern and use it in the center of the wall to create an accent wall for your bedroom.

    Bedding

    • If you opt for solid walls, incorporate a damask pattern in your bedding. A comforter or bedspread in chic black and white damask can work with a variety of wall colors, including rich, warm tones like wine and eggplant. Or purchase damask bedding in other colors, such as purple, pink, aqua or brown. If you have a four-poster or canopy bed, you can use damask fabric to enclose the bed from a sophisticated, romantic look. A damask fabric or pattern is also an ideal option when upholstering your headboard and can provide a more subtle look than an entire bedding set in the pattern.

    Curtains

    • Window treatments are an ideal way to incorporate color and pattern into your bedroom. Use a damask pattern for your curtain and valances to draw attention to the windows. Pairing damask valances with a sumptuous curtain fabric like silk or velvet gives your bedroom an elegant, romantic feel. You can combine damask curtains with bedding that matches, or use the window treatments to add flair to an otherwise simple room. You can also use damask fabric as a curtain in the doorway to a walk-in closet or dressing area for a more refined look.
