A deer topiary can be large or small and its size depends on how you intend to use it. If you want the deer for an elaborate holiday display (perhaps you're substituting deer for reindeer) or want the deer for another display, you will want larger deer. If the deer topiary is a simple ornament for your lawn, you can consider a smaller size. Another consideration will be how much greenery you have available for the topiary.
Create your topiary by carefully cultivating and shaping your hedge into your desired shape. Look for a topiary stencil or instruction kit specifically related to deer if you have not done this before. Try your skills on a piece of styrofoam before working with the greenery; this way you can experiment without wasting your greenery.
White lights are classic and elegant; they will light up the careful lines you have created for your incredible deer topiary. Switch up the lights for the holidays (red and green is always festive) or for other special occasions. You can also make your deer stand out with hues of yellow, gold or brown lighting.
Manage your deer topiary as you would any other topiary or hedge. Trim carefully to retain the shape and appeal. Water appropriately and ensure the hedge is monitored for growth or brown spots; you can cut out brown spots if they are minimal but too much browning will indicate you will need to begin anew on a fresh hedge.
