Which Granite Goes With Dark Cabinets?

Designing a kitchen is hard work, and picking out the right colors for your cabinets and countertops is a huge decision. If you have already decided on dark cabinets and want to pair them with granite countertops, picking colors that work well with the dark cabinets is vital.
  1. Bright Colors

    • Bright colors can provide a nice contrast to dark cabinets. Colors like blue pearl, peacock green and kashmire gold make your cabinets appear darker and richer. Bright colors will also help match white appliances and a bright floor. A bright granite color can help your cabinets stand out as the centerpiece of your kitchen as well.

    Matching Colors

    • If you want to coordinate your cabinets and your countertops, you can use matching dark colors for your granite. Dark colors like black galaxy, baltic brown and sapphire brown all work well as coordinating colors. By using coordinating colors, you can create a dark and rustic-looking kitchen. Dark colors will also work well with stainless steel appliances.

    Composites

    • Composite granite uses two or more contrasting colors and can be a little bit tricky to match with dark cabinets. The key is to match at least one of the colors to the cabinets and another color to either the floor or your appliances. Colors like luna pearl and black forest have both bright colors and deep darks. However, you need a lot of color in your kitchen to pull off a composite look; otherwise it will look like it clashes with your cabinets.

    Exotic Colors

    • Exotic colors only really go with dark countertops when the rest of your kitchen matches the cabinets and you want to create countertops as a focal point. Exotic colors are made up of many different colors and have completely individualized veins, swirls and loops. Examples of exotic colors include mascarelo, orian blue and star beach dark. Exotics should only be used if the rest of your kitchen matches as they will clash horribly if there are several different colors in the kitchen. Exotics must be the centerpiece of the room and don't work if they are "competing" against other several colors in the room.
