Thomas the Train Room Themes

Since kids often view cartoon characters as comforting and familiar friends, naturally they would welcome a room of their own built around a theme such as Thomas the Train. The colorful characters and exciting adventures contained in the show give parents much to work with when they design this special room for their little ones.
  1. Walls

    • Creating a Thomas the Train theme on the walls of your child's room is easy enough. Simply choose wallpaper or a border with images of the Thomas cartoon characters. Alternatively, paint a Thomas the Train mural on one or more walls for a life-size motif that will thrill your little one. If you'd rather not tie yourself to specific images of Thomas the Train, use primary colors on the walls and trim, and add items like lamps and figurines that feature the characters from the show.

    Floors

    • Many parents don't think to include special flooring in a character-themed child's room and simply choose carpeting in a color that flows with the decor. While there's nothing wrong with that, there are other options. If you have wooden floors, paint a train track that winds its way around the room in a curving pattern that your little one can follow with his toy trains. Alternatively, choose Thomas the Train throw rugs, and place one in the doorway, by the bed, and in his play area.

    Bedding

    • Your child will love snuggling down into her bed each night or at nap time when her sheets, comforter and pillowcases are covered in images of Thomas the Train and his trusty friends. Choose a Thomas the Train lamp and alarm clock to place by her bed to continue the theme. Look for a dust ruffle in a solid color that picks up one of the colors that dominate the patterns on the bedding, like red or yellow, for a cheerful look.

    Thomas Extras

    • As popular as Thomas the train is, you should have no problem finding additional items to include in your child's room. Purchase and frame large, colorful posters of Thomas and his friends to hang on the walls, particularly next to the bed where your little one can gaze at them as he drifts off. A Thomas night light and cuddly toy make for a pleasant bedtime as well. Hang a set of shelves or install a bookshelf and fill it with wooden train cars modeled after those on the show.
