How to Decorate Your Slab Porch

A slab porch is typically made of concrete and not very attractive. Slab porches are flat, however, and offer an array of possibilities for decoration. By incorporating and combining plants, ceramics and rugs, you can add a pleasing aesthetic dimension to your slab porch that will make it a more welcoming addition to your home.

Instructions

Put down an area rug that will cover as much of the porch as possible. Slab porches are often square or rectangular, so select a round or oval area rug to avoid reinforcing the square look of the area. The rug doesn’t have to cover the entire slab. Leave some of it showing around the edges of the area rug to create a frame effect for the rug. Choose a color or pattern for your rug you can work with to develop the rest of the decor.

Place two or three large decorative elements in the corners of the porch. Large ceramic vases or clay flower pots with plants or flowers is one way to add life to a slab porch. Statues or metal sculptures work as well. Hang a bird feeder or chimes to help enhance the entire area and not just the porch itself.

Add a porch swing or comfortable chair to the porch to make it a place where you can sit and read or just relax and watch neighborhood activity. A small, decorative table for setting drinks and your books is another way to enhance the appearance of the porch.
