How to Decorate a Kitchen in Lemon and Lime Colors

Create a bright kitchen with citrus colors for a bold but welcoming effect. Pair bright lemon yellow with lime green for a natural palette that brings the fruits to mind. Balance out the bright colors by infusing neutral colors in the room such as black or white. The amount of lemon and lime you use in the kitchen will determine the look and atmosphere of the room, as well as how easy -- or difficult -- it will be to update the room if you grow tired of the loud colors.

Instructions

    • 1

Paint the walls a soft shade of yellow or a softer shade of lime green. The opposite color brightens up the cabinets or backsplash. Alternatively, keep the walls pure white to provide a bright, but neutral, background. Incorporate wallpaper with lemon-and-lime patterns such as stripes or fruits. Build a backsplash with colorful yellow and green tiles if you want a custom look.

    • 2

Install large yellow and green diamond-shaped tiles to incorporate the color scheme in its entirety. Alternatively, hardwood, plain white, plain black or black-and-white checkered floors will work with a lemon and lime color scheme.

    • 3

Add brightly colored textiles throughout the room. Hang lime green dish towels on the oven handle or install lemon-yellow curtains against white walls. Place a lime-green rug over a white tile floor. It's OK to use neutral textiles if the walls and floor are bright lemon and lime shades. Add lemon- and lime-colored cushions to kitchen chairs or bar stools, and incorporate the two colors in a tablecloth, place mats, linen napkins or other table linens. Mix it up with patterns such as plaid, stripes or floral designs that feature both bright colors.

Hang artwork or prints with some lime or lemon colors in them. For example, hang a painting of a pitcher of lemonade filled with ice next to a bucket of limes or a modern piece of art with lime green and yellow geometric shapes on a white canvas. Alternatively, frame black-and-white prints or mirrors with lime-green or lemon-yellow frames.

Accessorize the kitchen with clear bowls or tall vases filled with lemons and limes -- real or artificial. Alternatively, display yellow or lime green pebbles in clear vases with the opposite color candles, candles disguised like the fruit or glass vases in yellow or lime green. Lime green canisters to hold sugar, flour or pasta keep frequently used ingredients close at hand while adding to the decor.
