How to Decorate a Tiny House

Paint with cool colors in most rooms of the house. Cool colors like light blues and greens make the walls seem further from the eye than if you paint with a warm, dark color.

Put large furniture into a small room to make it appear more impressive than it is. Try floor-to-ceiling furniture such as a bookcase to both build a sense of scale in the room and to take advantage of vertical space for storage.

Create more light in the space to make it look larger. Light-colored curtains that allow natural light into the space, lamps and lighting fixtures should all be used to maximize light. Mirrors also help as they reflect light to give the impression of more space than actually exists.

Buy dual-purpose furniture whenever possible. Ideally, anything that works as seating or a decorative piece should also have some practical function. Storage is especially important. Pieces like a chest that work as a coffee table while also providing practical storage are ideal in small spaces.

Remove any furniture that isn't strictly necessary. When space is limited, adding any piece that takes up floor space simply for the sake of decoration robs you of valuable space for practical pieces. Ensure that everything in the room serves an important function before you place it there.
