Screw two eye hooks into the wall. Space the hooks 8 inches down from the ceiling and 24 inches apart.
Fold a cotton net -- such as a fishing net or hay net -- in half so the opening of the net is up and the rest of the net hangs down. Feed the top edge of the netting through the eye hooks. Choose a cotton net between 26 and 30 inches long.
Fill the netting with stuffed crabs, lobsters, fish and other plush sea life. Stuff a few pieces of fake seaweed in the netting as well, if desired.
Tape a 3-inch lighthouse stencil to the side of a solid-colored cloth lampshade.
Dip a dry paintbrush into acrylic paint and paint the surface of the lighthouse stencil using a color to coordinate with the room’s decor.
Let the paint dry overnight. Remove the stencil.
Touch up the outline of the stencil as needed. Add additional details to the lighthouse, if desired, such as a door or stripes, using different colored acrylic paints. Let all the paint dry for a minimum of eight hours before using the lampshade.
Paint a plain, unfinished wood frame with white, interior wall paint. Let the paint dry overnight.
Rub the edges of the frame with sandpaper to remove some paint and give it a worn, weathered look. Add as little or as much weathering as you'd like to the frame. Dust the surface of the frame with a damp rag.
Apply hot glue to the back of small seashells and glue them to the front of the frame. Leave a 1/2-inch space between each shell, applying a line of shells around the frame. Use small shells measuring 1/2 to 1 inch each.
Place a nautical-themed picture into the frame, such as a seascape picture, a painting of a nautilus shell or a photograph of a sailboat.
