How to Decorate a Closet Hideout for Kids

Closet hideouts can be a source of delight and imagination for your kids. Designing closet hideouts is also the perfect chance to express your creativity and work together with your child to make the best hideout. Before getting started, you should ask your child what type of hideout he would like most. By choosing a theme for the hideout, you can simplify this process and give it character.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any clutter and debris from the floor of your child's closet. Use plastic crates and shelves to organize your child's belongings. Create as much space as possible for the hideout.

    • 2

Identify a theme for the closet hideout. For girls, use a Barbie or princess theme and decorate with pink walls, purple throw pillows and pink blankets. For boys, use a sports theme or spaceship theme and decorate with sports posters, sports memorabilia or spaceship posters.

    • 3

Paint the walls of the closet bright colors such as pink for girls and light blue for boys. Add framed posters and glow-in-the-dark stars to bring the walls to life.

Make the floor soft and inviting by covering it with blankets, pillows and cushions. Use a princess-themed blanket or a sports-themed blanket, depending on which theme you choose.

    • 5

Hang a curtain or sheet to keep the hideout hidden from view when entering the closet. You can add a "Do Not Enter" sign or other decorative sign to the closet door as well.
