How to Decorate a Goldilocks-Themed Room

The story of Goldilocks and the three bears is a staple story in nursery rhyme books. The imagery provided by the story offers you a rich pool of images to draw from as you create a Goldilocks-themed room. Taking decorating ideas from the book allows you to use story elements from the time that Goldilocks first sits at the bears' table until they find her in asleep in baby bear's bed. This will make this theme room look as if you've stepped out of reality and into the story itself.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the book to create a color scheme for the room. Look for a book of fairy tales with the “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” story in it. Study the pictures for some color schemes within the illustrations for the story. For example, after looking at the pictures, you may decide that your room's colors are yellow-gold for Goldilocks' hair and brown for the bears' fur.

    • 2

Paint the walls with the colors from your color scheme. To create a focal point in the room, paint one wall a different color than the other walls. For example, if you've chosen yellow and blue, paint one blue and the other three yellow. Hang pictures of bears or Goldilocks on the focal wall.

    • 3

Push the bed's headboard against the focal wall.

    • 4

Decorate the bed and a matching chair with sayings from “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” For example, you might paint the words “Then she lay down in the third bed and it was just right” on the headboard of the bed. Paint something similar on the chair.

    • 5

Paint a mural of Goldilocks and the three bears. Choose a pivotal scene in the book such as the scene when the bears come home to find a sleeping Goldilocks in baby bear's bed. Paint other areas of the room such as the door jambs and the trim around the windows with little leaves, trees and birds to represent the forest areas around the bears' house.

    • 6

Make a wall border near the ceiling; paint little bowls of porridge with the words “This porridge is just right.”

    • 7

Choose a quilt and curtains that match your room's colors and decorate the bed with a variety of pillows. It should look very comfortable and inviting to reflect what the book says about baby bear's bed. Make sure the quilt is fluffy.

    • 8

Place a doll with golden hair and three bears on the bed. Look for bears made by the same company and which come in three different sizes; this will make them look like a family. Find clothes to dress them.
