Ideas for a Boy's Room With Gothic Skull Decor

Decorating a bedroom for an older boy can be a challenge because you will likely come across few themes that meet his approval. However, even the most difficult to please boy may be impressed with the idea of a bedroom decked out in Gothic skull decor. The cool, creepy look of skull inspired furnishings, accessories and artwork is ideal for tween and teen boys, and you can tailor the decor to your son's preferences so the look is as bold or subtle as he likes.
  1. Skull Border

    • For a simple but bold look for your son's bedroom walls, use stencils to create a Gothic skull border. Skull stencils are available in several different designs, but a flaming style provides a fun, funky look. Start by painting the walls a light gray shade. Then decide whether you want to place the border across the top of the wall or in the center to serve as a chair rail. You can use a ruler and level to create a guideline so you know where to place each skull. Use a repositionable mounting spray to adhere the stencil to the wall and fill in with acrylic paint. You can use white, black and red shades for the border because they fit the Gothic theme of the bedroom well. Move the stencil across the wall and continue painting until the border reaches around the entire room.

    Skull Headboard

    • The bed is usually the focal point of the room, so using gothic skulls to decorate your son's headboard is an ideal way to bring the room's theme to life. You can find plastic skulls online and at party supply stores. If your son's headboard features posters, you can attach a skull to each one to create a striking look for the bed. However, you can also use small sections of decorative plastic fencing that feature skull embellishments to create a headboard. The fence is meant to decorate lawns for Halloween, but you can mount it to the wall behind the bed to create a simple but striking headboard.

    Skull Bedding

    • Bedding is another simple away to emphasize a bedroom's theme. Look for bedding that features a skull design to help tie the room's look together. A comforter with a black background and small skull pattern offers a subtle look that may appeal to a boy. However, if you can't find a premade bedding set that features a Gothic skull design, visit the fabric store and look for a pattern that fits the theme. You can use it to make simple pillow case covers for the bed and pair them with a solid black or gray sheet set for a fun, custom look.

    Skull Accessories

    • You may be surprised at the number of Gothic skull inspired décor accessories that you can find for sale online and at home goods stores. Finish off your son's bedroom with a wall mirror whose frame features a Gothic skull embellishment. Add a skull lamp to his bedside table and decorate his shelves with skull shaped bookends. You can even find a throw rug with a skull pattern to place in front of the door or at the foot of the bed.
