Decorating Ideas for Bedrooms With Green Walls

Green is a color that's often associated with nature and energy. It has a calming and restful effect but can also look vibrant and energetic when combined with colors like red and orange. The best way to decorate a bedroom with green walls is to use other colors to create an interesting design.
  1. Monochromatic Colors

    • Monochromatic colors, like green, mint green and olive, are colors of the same hue. Use the monochromatic color scheme when decorating a bedroom with green walls by choosing window treatments in the same color or a color close to the same color as your walls. Printed window treatments with a color or colors in different shades of green can also be used. Mix and match your bedding by combining printed sheets in any shade of green with solid sheets, such as a floral fitted sheet and a bedspread with solid pillowcases. Your window treatments can also match the print and/or color of your bedding.

    Analogous Colors

    • Green, yellow-green and yellow or green, blue-green and blue are analogous colors -- colors that are side-by-side on the color wheel. Use any one of these color combinations to decorate a bedroom with green walls. Mix and match bedding with solid or printed green sheets, yellow-green pillowcases and a yellow bedspread. Decorate with a beige couch with green, yellow-green and yellow throw pillows or an armchair in any one of these colors. Pull the look together with window treatments to match the color of your couch, armchair or one of the colors or prints of your throw pillows or bedding.

    Complementary Colors

    • Complementary colors, like green and red, are those that are directly across each other on the color wheel. One way to decorate using green and red in a bedroom so that it doesn't look too much like Christmas is to use different shades of green and red, such as maroon, olive and mint. A design idea is to cover your bed in white sheets with solid or printed olive or mint pillow cases and with a maroon bedspread. Accessorize with maroon throw pillows and with a green or maroon area rug. Choose one of the prints from your bed for the window treatments, or cover your windows in the same shade of green as the walls. If you use mint or green pillowcases, you can also use one of these colors for your window treatments.

    Split-Complementary Colors

    • A split-complementary color scheme includes a color and the two colors beside its complement. An example of split-complementary colors is green, violet and orange. One way to design with this color combination is to cover your bed in violet sheets and solid or printed orange throw pillows. Decorate with an upholstered armchair and ottoman in any one of the colors and accessorize with a green, orange or violet area rug. Match your window treatments to the walls in your bedroom or with the color of your bed or prints of your throw pillows.
