The centerpiece serves as a focal point for the rest of your fireplace and can be a trusty antique clock, a large canvas painting or a miniature ship in a bottle. Opt for something that flows with the theme of your room. For example, if your home is very contemporary, choose a large mirror as your centerpiece. A more traditional style home might warrant a wreath as a fireplace centerpiece.

  Add some greenery to your fireplace. Place a lengthy imitation vine along the top of your mantle, or opt for two large potted plants to place at either side of your fireplace hearth. Greenery adds an element of nature to your design and can work with contemporary, traditional or rustic living room schemes.
