How to Decorate a Center Chimney Fireplace

In addition to offering warmth during the cold winter months, a center chimney fireplace also adds an element of comfort and coziness to your living room. It's important to decorate your fireplace in order to add a sense of completeness to your living or family room. While some families simply opt to store mail or framed photographs on their fireplace, it's possible to decorate it in a more elaborate and personal way.

Instructions

Place a centerpiece in the middle of your fireplace mantle. The centerpiece serves as a focal point for the rest of your fireplace and can be a trusty antique clock, a large canvas painting or a miniature ship in a bottle. Opt for something that flows with the theme of your room. For example, if your home is very contemporary, choose a large mirror as your centerpiece. A more traditional style home might warrant a wreath as a fireplace centerpiece.

Add some greenery to your fireplace. Place a lengthy imitation vine along the top of your mantle, or opt for two large potted plants to place at either side of your fireplace hearth. Greenery adds an element of nature to your design and can work with contemporary, traditional or rustic living room schemes.

Add candles to your fireplace mantle for a romantic and homey touch. For a traditional or formal living room, opt for matching candelabras on either side of your centerpiece. For a more contemporary or modern appearance, opt for a line of miniature tea candles to place across the entire length of the mantle.
