Old Hollywood Glamour Bedroom Ideas

When it comes to glamour, few decorating styles come close to the interiors of old Hollywood. Shelter magazines and interior decorators refer to the style as Hollywood Regency. Films from Hollywood's Golden Age frequently feature the leading lady gliding about a glamorous boudoir wearing a flowing, feather-trimmed peignoir. You can give your own bedroom some movie star glamour by adding Hollywood-inspired touches.
  1. Furniture

    • You don't need a round bed atop a dais to give your bedroom the Hollywood Regency look. A curvy, upholstered headboard of tufted satin does the trick nicely. Top it with a matching bedspread featuring a diamond-quilted top and a shirred skirt. If satin seems too high maintenance, use washable cotton or linen instead. White, Ivory, peach or icy pastels punctuated with black are classic color choices for the look.

Place mirrored Art Deco nightstands, vintage or reproduction, on both sides of the bed. Hide media equipment in an over-the-top carved armoire, perhaps painted glossy black or white. Add a lacquered dresser or fabric-draped vanity with a slipper chair.

    Windows

    • Repeat your bedspread fabric on your windows, with floor length curtain or drapery panels. Hang them from a gilded or painted rod with matching rings. If you opt for fixed panels, tie them back with tasseled cords. Embellish the leading edge of drawing panels with contrasting fabric or with ribbon featuring a Greek key design.

    Floors

    • Hardwood floors work fine with the glamorous, Hollywood-inspired look, but give them several coats of shiny wax. If your wood floors need work, paint them glossy black or replace them with marble tiles. Soften the look with a sheepskin, white shag or faux zebra rug. If you opt for wall-to-wall carpet, consider patterned carpet with a small-scale leopard or cheetah print.

    Walls

    • Both wallpaper and painted walls work for the Hollywood Regency look. If you go with paint, use white, ivory or the pastel from your bed to keep the look light. If you prefer something bolder, consider deep teal, bottle green, ruby red or peacock blue. For walls in good condition, try light-reflecting satin paint instead of flat. If you prefer wallpaper, consider a chinoiserie paper or an Art Deco geometric.

    Lighting and Accessories

    • Top your nightstands with a matching pair of lamps made of stacked Lucite cubes, mercury glass or blanc de Chine. Hang a crystal-covered or Asian-inspired chinoiserie chandelier in the center of the room or over the bed. Use a gilded, faux-bamboo mirror above your dresser or vanity. Add an elegant vase full of flowers and a vintage silver champagne bucket to finish the look.
