Making an Ocean Theme in a Room

Enhance the room's walls with in an ocean-inspired palette of turquoise blue, aquamarine and sea foam green. Paint all of the walls a watery hue, or just create one accent wall.

Decorate with casual furniture you'd find in a charming beach house. Place a white wicker headboard, dresser and night stand set in a bedroom to create a breezy look. Replace a dark, out-of-date living room couch with a lighter rattan version. Add a touch of whimsy to a child's bedroom with a wooden ship-shaped bed frame.

Choose sea creature-inspired decor touches for an authentic look. Hang colorful framed paintings of tropical fish, seahorses and dolphins in a child's room or a baby's nursery. Place a lamp featuring a seahorse-shaped base on a bedroom nightstand or living room side table. Put crab- and lobster-patterned throw pillows on a couch or love seat to create a nautical vibe. Accent the room with real ocean treasures gathered on a beach vacation. Glue seashells onto a wreath base to create wall or door decor.
