Decorating Ideas for a Rock N Roll Room

For an avid music fan, a rock 'n' roll themed bedroom is a dream come true. The theme often works well for a teen's room because it has a edgy, funky feel that usually appeals to teenagers. Decorating with a rock 'n' roll theme can also be a fun design project because it allows you to be creative and channel your interest in music into the room's look. You can incorporate the theme in a variety of ways, but it's usually best to focus on one or two key elements so you don't overwhelm the space.
  1. Record Headboard

    • The bed is the focal point of any bedroom, so giving your headboard a rock ‘n’ roll twist is an ideal way to drive the theme home. If you have old vinyl records, use them to make a fun headboard that fits the rock theme. Paint your plain wooden headboard in a gray or silver color before attaching the records, so the vinyl is sure to stand out. Try different layouts with the records to find the one that fits the shape of your headboard best. You can stagger them so more of the painted headboard beneath is visible or overlap the records so most of the wood is covered. If your bed frame doesn’t have a headboard, you can mount the records to the wall in an arch or block to mimic the look of a headboard.

    Instruments

    • A rock ‘n’ roll bedroom wouldn’t be complete without musical instruments to give it an authentic feel. If you play the guitar or drums, leave the equipment out on display. If you aren’t musically inclined, hunt around thrift stores, flea markets and yard sales for old guitars that you can mount to the wall as a decoration. You can also stack a couple of old snare drums on top of one another to create a fun bedside table. You can even spray-paint some old tambourines and use them to create a wall display.

    Album Cover Collage

    • For a funky accent wall in your rock ‘n’ roll bedroom, use album covers to create a patchwork display for your wall. You can use your favorite albums or just choose some with colors and artwork that you like. Framing the covers creates a cool, tiled effect, so purchase inexpensive black frames with white photo matting for a clean look. For the most dramatic look, line the walls from ceiling to floor with the covers. You can incorporate vintage concert posters in the design as well if you don’t have enough album covers to cover the entire wall.

    Disco Ball

    • For a fun look that makes you feel like you’re on stage at a rock concert, hang a mirrored disco ball in the center of your room. The ball reflects light, so it will illuminate your walls with a cool, prism-like effect. To amplify the look, use colored light bulbs in the room’s light fixtures so the ball will scatter red, blue or green reflections around the room. You can also add a black light and pair it with fluorescent paint to give your bedroom the feel of a club or funky concert venue.
