How to Install a Rain Wall Decoration

A rain wall, sometimes called a rain curtain, is a unique water feature that is often found in Asian themed landscapes and patios. The wall is literally made from water flowing down consistently from a frame positioned above the wall location. Rain walls can be large or small, depending on the space and the amount of water you want to run through it.

  • 2 PVC elbow joints

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the PVC pipe that will be the top horizontal bar where the rain holes will be drilled. Drill holes evenly in a straight line or be creative with alternating holes a 1/2 to the front and back to create a more interesting water attraction.

    • 2

Assemble the PVC pipes so you have a top horizontal bar and two vertical pipes. Use the elbow joints to secure them in place. Don't seal anything yet.

    • 3

Put the pump components in place and fill the plastic planter with water. Place the PVC vertical ends in the water. Water should flow through, but not so strongly that a PVC pipe begins to twist from pressure. Replace the pump at your local hardware store if you need to. A pump exerting 80 gallons per hour should be adequate for a rain wall this size.

    • 4

Remove the PVC components from the pump and water. Let them dry thoroughly and then seal the PVC joints with silcone sealant to water proof it. Let the sealant dry and reinstall all pump components.

    • 5

Position the PVC wall in place and secure it with a bag of river rocks on the bottom of the planter. Fill the planter with water and turn the pump on.
