DIY Ideas for a Butterfly-Themed Toddler Girl's Bedroom

Whether it’s a soccer theme for a teenager who plays the sport or a sophisticated look for a young lady, tailoring bedroom decor to fit the tastes of the person living in it makes the space much more enjoyable for the occupant. One example is a butterfly theme for a toddler-aged girl. There are a number of do-it-yourself ideas you can try.
  1. Wall Art

    • If you don’t want to or are not allowed to paint the walls, frame a butterfly collection in shadowbox frames, and hang them around the room. You can use real butterflies that you captured yourself or fake plastic ones. Another option is to paint pictures of butterflies, let them dry, and then frame them to hang on the walls. You can also create butterflies out of construction paper or paper mache, and hang them on the walls or from the ceiling.

    Pretty Picture

    • If you can paint, paint a butterfly motif or pattern on the walls. Or try a mural, such as butterflies resting on flowering bushes, flying through a meadow or spreading their colorful wings on a tree branch. Paint the mural on all the walls, on one accent wall or a big butterfly on one accent wall. Or, just paint the walls shades that complement the colors of the butterflies used in the room accents.

    Fitting Furnishings

    • Make all the furniture in the room fit the theme by putting butterflies on them. This project is an enjoyable one that the toddler can help you do. Use her favorite colors of paint and some stencils. Affix butterfly stickers to drawer fronts, or decoupage pictures of butterflies cut from books and magazines onto the bed’s headboard. These techniques not only look fitting but are another way to streamline the look of mismatched pieces.

    Fun Fabrics

    • The textiles you use in the room are another way to easily incorporate the theme. If you’re skilled with a sewing machine, buy a few yards of butterfly-patterned fabric, and make a butterfly bedding and curtain set. Or, purchase a plain set, and use a large butterfly stencil and colorful fabric paint on it. Use smaller stencils on other items in the room, such as a rug and a lampshade, to make them fit with the butterfly theme.
