How to Do a French Boudoir Bathroom

A boudoir is a private area separate from the bedroom and used by French women for dressing and bathing. Usually decorated to be glamorous, sensual and intimate, traditional boudoirs contained marble fixtures, 24-karat gold accents and rose quartz fixtures. However, you can decorate your bathroom in a French boudoir fashion that provides the fantasy of living in a French castle, yet without the high expense.

Instructions

    • 1

Paint the walls in a soft, sensual color, such as dusty pink or rose, off-white or a plush shade of champagne. Choose accent colors like gold or silver.

    • 2

Pick towels, a bath mat, window dressing and shower curtain in the same color range as your walls to complement your theme. Choose delicate, feminine pieces, such as hand towels that are edged with lace or bath towels that are monogrammed in calligraphy. Purchase double-layered window curtains, with the outside layer made from a sheer lace or silk material.

    • 3

Install lighting fixtures or lamps that have glass stems, delicate bronze or silver bases embellished with crystals of beads and white silk lampshades. Use light bulbs that create a soft feel rather than a harsh, bright exposure.

    • 4

Hang mirrors with ornate frames in bronze, gold or silver and are in soft round shapes, rather than hard-edged squares or rectangles.

    • 5

Purchase a Victorian-era vanity table, stool and lounge chair. Pick items that have soft features and extensive detail, such as carved legs, rounded corners and antique knobs on the drawers of the vanity. Throw a rose-colored silk scarf over the stool and tie the ends to the legs with ribbons. Dress the lounge chair up with silk throw pillows.

    • 6

Arrange Victorian crystal or silver trays for perfume and makeup on top of the vanity table, along with antique jewelry boxes and crystal vases filled with fresh pink flowers.
