Roll a piece of paper into a tight cylinder. Any type of paper will do. However, plain white paper will not give off an offensive odor like a magazine or newspaper might.
Turn a stove-top burner on high. Take your candle over to the stove and turn on the kitchen faucet.
Place the end of the paper cylinder to the stove-top burner and light. If you have a gas stove, the paper will light immediately. If you have an electric stove, you may have to hold the paper to the burner for 15 to 20 seconds before it lights.
Place the lighted end of the paper to the candlewick. Light the candle, then immediately place the paper under the running water to put out the flame.
