Measure the length of the ladle you plan to use for this project and add 3 inches.
Measure and mark a line across the width of a scrap of old weathered fence or barn wood using the ladle measurement as a guide. Cut along the mark with a miter or jig saw.
Lay the cut piece of board on your work surface. Center the length of the ladle on its length. Measure down 1 1/2 inches from the top end of the ladle and make a mark on each side of the handle using a pencil.
Remove the ladle. Drill a hole through the board at each pencil mark using a 3/32-inch drill bit.
Cut a 10-inch length of baling wire using wire cutters.
Fold the wire in half around the handle of a broom. Cross the wire ends over each other and twist one rotation against the handle using needle-nose pliers. Slide the wire loop off the handle to make your sconce's hanging loop.
Insert one wire end through each of the drilled holes from the back of the board to the front. Pull the wire ends through the board until the twist of the hanging loop is against the back of the board. Bend the loop up and toward the top edge of the sconce board and flat against the back.
Center the ladle on the front of the board with the handle between the wire ends. Tightly twist the wire ends two rotations over the handle using the pliers. Trim the wire ends to 1/2-inch lengths using the wire cutters.
Hang the sconce on your wall. Place a votive candle in the spoon of the ladle.
