How to Hang Candle Lanterns for Inside Use

Candle lanterns serve as a subtle and timeless light source, adding a calm and relaxed ambiance to any area. Many people use candle lanterns outdoors to light their porches and yards after dark and to keep biting insects away. Some home owners like hanging these lanterns inside, as well. Lighting candles instead of using electric lights helps save electricity in addition to creating a serene atmosphere. Indoor lanterns may also use scented candles to freshen the air. You don’t need special candle lanterns for the indoors; most outdoor lanterns will do just fine. You simply need to make sure your hanging materials are the right type.

  Read the wall bracket label to see how much weight it can hold. Pick higher rather than lower. For instance, if your lantern is 5 lb., pick an 8 or 10 lb. bracket rather than 6 or 4 lb.

  Install your bracket on the wall. Place a level vertically against the wall and draw a straight line as long as the base of your bracket. Hold the bracket up to the line and make little Xs where the screw holes are so you can see the marks along the line on the wall.

  Drill holes through your Xs using a #8 drill bit. Hold your bracket up against the wall so the holes in the wall line up with the holes in the bracket.

  Pass a toggle bolt through the bracket’s top hole and screw it into the wall. Once in the wall, two metal “wings” on either side of the bolt’s body will expand and hold the bolt fast in the drywall, eliminating the need for a stud. Repeat with the other toggle bolt, making sure both are flush with the surface of the bracket’s base.

  Slip the loop or hook at the end of your lantern’s chains over the wall bracket hook.
