Candle Decorating Ideas

Jar Candles

• Jar candles come in a glass jar with a glass lid. To make a jar candle more interesting, remove the candle and decorate the glass jar, and replace the candle when finished. Turn the glass lid upside down and glue a cut-out magazine photo of your favorite flower, animal or design in the lid. For the inside of the jar, glue the front of a beautiful Christmas card, or the inside of a greeting card that has a meaningful quote you love to read. Decorate the neck of the jar with wire ribbon, tiny bells or silk flowers.

  When burning candles decorated with paper cutouts, remove the paper before burning. Lit candles (decorated or not) should never be left unattended.

Beads and Glitter

• Taper candles are popular for applying a beading technique. Providing a variety of colorful beads in different sizes and textures makes the most interesting result. Beads are placed one by one into the candle and pressed into the wax with light fingertips. Stripes, designs and even words can be formed with the beads.

  Rolling the candle in glitter will add to its sparkle and shine. Decorated taper candles can be burned safely, although all lit candles should be supervised.

Using Candles as Decoration

• When decorating the house with candles, vary the size, shape and color of them. Place a group of candles of varying sizes on the kitchen table in compatible colors. Place votive candles along the edge of a staircase to add romance to a party. If you have a pool, float candles across the surface to bring a hint of magic and light to the outdoors. Scented candles add a flavor to the room -- a smell of bayberry can enhance a holiday party, for example.
