How to Make Wine Glass Lampshades

Electric tea lights give a room a special sparkle, but sometimes a simple candleholder or cup isn't pretty enough for the occasion. Turn stemmed wine glasses into tiny lamps with shades for a festive lighting addition to your table or mantel. The wine glass itself will shine in the light and the shade makes the glass look like a miniature table lamp. Create a lampshade collection for your wine glasses with a variety of papers to display on holidays and special occasions.

Things You'll Need

  • Printer paper
  • Scissors
  • Specialty paper sheets
  • Marker
  • Scissors
  • Paper punch
  • Craft glue
  • Paper clips
  • Battery-powered tea lights

Instructions

    • 1

Print out a wine glass lampshade pattern on printer paper. Cut out the pattern with scissors.

    • 2

Lay the pattern on the back side of a piece of decorative paper. The paper should be about the size of printer paper. Use vellum, metallic wrapping paper, origami paper or other decorative stiff paper. Trace around the pattern with a dark marker.

    • 3

Cut out the pattern shape from the decorative paper. Keep the edges smooth and even.

    • 4

Cut decorative holes in the paper with a paper punch. Make a line of holes around the top and bottom curves or place holes in random spots all over the shade surface.

    • 5

Curve the shade around with the decorative side of the paper on the outside. Place a line of glue on one straight edge of the paper. Overlap the other straight edge 1/4 inch. Place a paper clip at the top and the bottom of the edges to keep them in place while the glue dries.

    • 6

Place a battery-powered tea light in the bottom of a wine glass when the glue has completely dried on the shade. Place the shade on top of the glass, resting it on the rim. Place the wine glass lamp where it won't be bumped or disturbed.
