Hanging Photos Behind a Sofa

Photos can brighten a room, fill empty walls and complement furnishings. You may see a large art photo on display in an office or smaller ones hanging side by side in a living room. Size and positioning are important when hanging photos, especially when it comes to decorating behind a sofa. The right setup improves your room's overall appearance, but the wrong setup can make the room appear unbalanced and the photo out of place.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the sofa and photos you want to hang.

    • 2

Pick one or several photos that measure a total of 30 to 90 percent of the sofa's size when hung horizontally.

    • 3

Mark 6 to 8 inches above the sofa's back. Align the bottoms of each picture with the marked area.

    • 4

Use picture hooks to hang a single, large photograph centrally behind the sofa. To arrange large and small photos, place the largest photo in the middle and arrange the smaller pieces on both sides of the large photo, leaving 3 to 4 inches of space between each piece, to achieve balance. To arrange photos of equal sizes, hang them side by side centrally behind the sofa.
