Instructions

    • 1

Place one of the 1-by-12-by-24 inch long pieces of lumber standing up, then drill a hole into the side of the board. On the 12-inch side of the board position the hole 8 inches in from the left edge and 2 inches from the bottom edge. Repeat this for the other side of the board.

    • 2

Drill holes into a second board, positioning the holes in the exact locations as the first board.

    • 3

Place the two boards side by side, lining up the corresponding holes by standing up the boards on their edges so the holes face each other on either end.

    • 4

Insert a wooden dowel in between the first two tiny holes created by the 1/8 inch drill bit. Use a screwdriver to insert the screw through the hole into the dowel ends. This will secure the first dowel in place as the screw's head is bigger than the drilled hole.

    • 5

Insert a wooden dowel in between the second two holes. Repeat step 4 to secure the second dowel in place.

    • 6

Sand the entire form using medium-grain sandpaper, then again with fine-grain sandpaper. This will remove any splintering and will make the wood feel smooth.

    • 7

Paint the shoe rack using latex paint, any color you prefer. Allow the paint to dry for the recommended time on the paint can before use.

    • 8

Place the shoe rack onto the floor with the dowels positioned parallel to the floor. Set the shoes on the dowels with the shoe heels in the back and toe's facing forward.
