Hull Planter Colors

One of the original potters of Ohio, A.E. Hull Pottery brought dozens of useful and decorative clay pieces to market most often featuring soft, pastel hues. Hull's planter designs typically offered glossy yet muted floral motifs, with some collections also including fruit, seashell and figurine adornment.
  1. Crab Apple Planters

    • Illustrated with pink blossoms and green leaves, Hull’s Crab Apple scene extends around the pot over a medium blue or a beige setting. The curvy beige planter narrows at the bottom and flares at the rim, while the blue pot is slightly more rounded. The Hull Pottery Association Library of photos shows the beige version set on a beige plate base.

    Tuscany/Tokay Collection

    • Two Hull planters don grapes in the Tuscany/Tokay collection. One planter depicts a single bunch of green or Tokay grapes and green vine on a squat and tubular white planter. Both planters stand atop a single leg on a flat, round base and sport low-set, green handles. The Tuscany red grape planter also includes a green vine, but Hull designed this pot with a subtle rosy rim and mint-color base.

    Fiesta Line

    • The Fiesta line includes both a strawberry and a rose decorated planter. The red berry design includes a green vine on either a solid white background or a creamy backdrop melding into a pale yellow rim and base. The floral motif has green leaves against an off-white body with a pink rim and stand. Either of these lines may include gold trimmings.

    Ebb Tide Series

    • This sea life group of pottery features mostly soft coral bodies mottled with watery green accents. Hull Potters cast the Ebb Tide planters mainly in the form of seashells.

    Lady & Basket Planter

    • Part planter and part figurine, Hull’s Lady & Basket design features a woman with golden hair, a flowing gown and large summer hat toting a bouquet in one hand and a square basket -- as the planter -- in the other. Except for the soft yellow hair and bouquet attributes, the entire piece is cast in white with red trimmings.

    Fantasy Lines

    • Topped with white and featuring either baby blue or baby pink bodies, the Fantasy line of planters features a rectangular, window box shape. The white, splattered, scalloped rim seems to “drip” from the top third of the Fantasy collection of shallow pots.
