How to Install Wall Hangings

Fabric and paper wall hangings typically have a rod running through the top edge. The rod holds the hanging flat while adding a decorative touch to the art. These hangings require a tapestry bracket, available from hardware and framing stores, to mount them to the wall. The rod sits inside the brackets. These brackets are either invisible when properly mounted or they have a decorative finish that complements the wall hanging.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the hanging against the wall in the location you wish to hang it. Set a wall level along the top edge of the hanging and adjust the hanging until it's level. The hanging is level when the air bubble inside the level is centered between the two lines etched onto the level.

Mark the wall with a pencil at the location for the two mounting brackets. The brackets should set at either end of the hanging rod, 1 to 2 inches in from the ends of the pole. Set the hanging aside once the wall is marked.

Place a tapestry bracket over one of the pencil marks, lining up the nail hole in the bracket with the mark. Drive a picture nail or the nail that came with the bracket through the hole. The nail goes in at a downward angle, which prevents it from pulling out of the drywall. Nail the second bracket to the wall over the second pencil mark.

Place the wall hanging rod in the brackets. Adjust the hanging so it is centered within the hanging brackets.
