How to Reupholster a Padded Piano Bench

Piano benches that are antique or vintage can look unsightly when the bench upholstery is tattered and weathered-looking. Make the piano bench appear more decorative and beautiful by reupholstering the bench with new fabric. You can save money by reupholstering the bench yourself while customizing the bench to match the rest of your room's decor. Buy everything you need in order to cover the piano bench from any arts and crafts supply store.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height, width and length of the piano bench top using a measuring tape.

    • 2

Cut out a rectangle from fabric to match the measurements from the previous step plus 4 inches on all sides.

    • 3

Cut out a piece of 3-inch foam to the measurements of the width and length of the piano bench top.

    • 4

Take the piano bench top off of the piano bench, then remove the weathered fabric and padding.

    • 5

Place the foam rectangle onto the piano bench top, lining up the edges.

    • 6

Place the fabric rectangle over the top of the foam, centering the fabric evenly onto the piano bench top.

    • 7

Turn the bench top over, then fold the edges of the fabric over to touch the underside of the piano bench.

    • 8

Staple the fabric in place around the underside of the bench using a staple gun, keeping the fabric taut and working around the brackets that will secure the bench top back onto the piano bench bottom.

    • 9

Reattach the piano bench top back onto the piano bench bottom.
