Pull small tufts, approximately the size of a quarter, from a package of Spanish moss. Apply a dot of hot glue to a 2-inch foam ball. Place a moss tuft over the glue. Continue to randomly apply dots of hot glue and tufts of moss until you have covered the ball. Note: The moss becomes filler underneath the shells and does not have to completely cover the foam ball.
Separate your scallop shells into piles according to small, medium and large sizes.
Apply hot glue to the inside of one large scallop shell. Place the shell over the moss on the ball. Apply pressure with your fingers and hold the shell until the glue has cooled. Continue to randomly add the large shells to the outside of the ball until you no longer have room to fit a large shell.
Attach the medium- and small-sized scallop shells to the ball. Fill in between the large shells and layer them on top, if needed, to cover large gaps. The Spanish moss should peek out of smaller gaps.
Place the ball on top of a standard-size coffee cup to prevent it from rolling. Randomly apply dots of craft glue to small areas between the shells. Place a 6mm pearl bead on each dot. Allow the glue to dry. Rotate the ball on the cup and add additional beads. Use an many pearls as you like. Note: Instead of buying new beads, you can use the beads from a broken pearl costume necklace.
