How Do I Hang a Stretched Canvas Painting?

If you wish to hang a stretched canvas painting on a wall without framing it, you can do so using a method that involves nails. While many would assume that a single nail in the center of the frame would suffice, the truth is that you need to use two nails per side in order to guarantee a sturdy finish. The extra support will allow you to hang the frame easily and quickly.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the painting up to the wall in the position that you wish to hang it.

    • 2

Lower the painting 1 inch and use a pencil to create four marks directly above the painting. The marks should be one-third from each side of the painting.

    • 3

Hammer a nail into each mark, leaving about 1/2 inch of nail protruding from the wall. A 2-inch nail should be sufficient to hang all average-sized stretched canvases that have 1/2-inch thick frames.

Hang the painting by resting the frame over the nails.
