Creative Uses for Enamelware Bowls

Decorative enamelware bowls are not just for meal service. Create artistic elements for your home and garden with these colorful, often artistic, pieces. Enamelware is made by covering a base metal of aluminum, iron or steel with porcelain enamel. The porcelain enamel coating is a glasslike substance that transforms the base metal into attractive kitchenware.
  1. Fountains

    • Select a deep enamelware bowl to use as the reservoir for a table-top water fountain. Install a small, submersible fountain pump in the center of the bowl, attach a fountainhead to the pump and add decorative touches, such as glass stones or river rock, to complete the fountain design. Stand lucky bamboo stalks inside glass vases around the inside perimeter of the enamelware bowl to add height and live greenery to the fountain. Place the enamelware fountain on an indoor table or outside on a patio table.

    Wall Art

    • Create a decorative display for your kitchen wall with an arrangement of enamelware bowls. Select bowls with different but compatible color schemes in an array of sizes. If the inside of the bowl is plain, hang the bowls with the top rims facing the wall so that the outside enamelware decor is most visible. To hang the bowls, attach decorative bowl hangers that fit the inside dimensions of the bowl to the wall. Bowl hangers are available from online retailers, home decor supply stores and hardware stores.

    Dish Gardens

    • Large enamelware bowls make decorative dish gardens for your choice of indoor or outdoor plants. Place the plants into small planters or water containers that fit inside the bowl. Arrange the plants in the bowl, and then cover the tops of the containers with craft moss to tie the dish garden together. There's no need to drill holes in the enamelware for water drainage, but take care not to water the plants in their individual containers excessively.

    Centerpieces

    • Create a centerpiece using an enamelware bowl as the container for a silk or real floral arrangement. Cut wet or dry floral foam with a serrated knife to fit inside the bowl; use wet foam for real flowers and dry foam for silk flowers. Soak the wet foam in water before placing it in the bowl. Tape the foam to the inside of the bowl with floral tape to hold the foam in place. Cut flower stems -- use wire cutters for silk stems -- to the desired height and insert them into the foam. Cover the foam with decorative stones or craft moss to complete the centerpiece.
