Samples of Crafting With Laminate Floor

For people who craft, almost any material can become something new. Recycling leftovers from different projects around the house makes interesting and one-of-a-kind decorations. For example, instead of throwing away your leftover laminate flooring, create something new and decorative for your home or for unique gifts to give away to friends and family members.
  1. Picture Frames

    • Piece together sections of the laminate flooring to make picture frames. Choose one of the two following methods to create a picture frame.

If the flooring pieces are small, glue them together end to end, using staples on the back, to create the sides of the frame. Place two pieces for the sides and then place two more pieces for the top and bottom. Leave the corners square or cut them with a miter saw or chop saw for angled corners. Glue and staple the four pieces together.

For another frame idea, overlap the sides of the frame at the corners. Place the two side pieces at the distance you want and then place the other two pieces on top so that the corners overlap. Glue and staple them together.

Covering the picture with glass is optional.

    Coasters

    • Most laminates have a soft back, which makes it the ideal material for coasters on table-top surfaces that can scratch. Cut the laminate into 4-inch squares by trimming off the excess lip, which is the tongue part that fits into the next section of flooring. Cover the top of the laminate with a piece of felt, because the laminate itself will not absorb moisture from sweating drinks. Glue the felt to the top of the laminate with strong craft glue.

    Magnets

    • Small pieces of laminate flooring make good magnets. Craft these with your children on a rainy day. After an adult cuts the flooring to 2- to 3-inch pieces, the kids can go to work. Have an assortment of photos of the family, friends, and pets available, as well as some epoxy glue and magnets. Paint brushes work well to apply the glue to the back of the picture, although there should be adult supervision when using an epoxy. Apply pressure on the entire magnet once you attach the picture to the front of the flooring and the magnet to the back. The glue will dry completely in 24 hours.

    Coat Rack

    • Lay two to three leftover pieces of the laminate side by side. Attach them together using a bead of glue on the long sides and then securing staples to the back. To strengthen it further, wrap the twine 3 inches in from the end, all the way around the front and the back at least two times. Tie the twine with a double knot at the back. Add some hangers to the back of the coat rack, so that you can attach it to the wall. Screw in hooks that are suitable for hanging coats onto the front of the coat rack.
