Steps to Make a Home Interior Artificial Flower Bouquet

Flowers are an ideal accessory for adding color and texture to your home's decor, but live displays can be costly and may not last long enough to justify the expense. Artificial flowers provide a cost-effective alternative and come in many realistic varieties that mean that you don't have to sacrifice on appearance. Creating your own artificial floral bouquet allows you to custom its appearance so you wind up with the ideal look for your home.
  1. Set up the Container

    • Unlike live floral arrangements, an artificial flower display does not require water. As a result, you are not limited to traditional vases when selecting a container for your arrangement. You can use a basket or wooden box instead of a vase for an individual look. When you have chosen a container, use floral adhesive to secure a piece of brown floral foam inside the container. The foam is available in rings, pads, bricks and cylinders, but it is easy to cut into any shape to fit your container. If you plan to create an arrangement with space between the flowers and leaves, use moss to cover any foam that may be exposed.

    Prepare the Flowers

    • You can find artificial flowers that resemble virtually any live flower. Choose a selection of blooms in various types and colors that match your décor. Ready them for the arrangement by spreading the stems and shaping the petals to give them a natural look. You should also shape the leaves along the stems to maintain a realistic, full look.

    Place Outside Flowers

    • To give your arrangement a balanced look, the artificial flowers should be at least twice as long as your vase or container. However, you should vary the length of your flowers to provide a more interesting look for the display. Begin by placing the shorter flowers along the outer edge of the container, pushing them into the floral foam to secure them. Use the width of the container to determine how wide to fan the flowers.

    Add the Main Flowers

    • The artificial flowers that you wish to showcase in your arrangement should be placed in the center. Typically, these are the tallest or largest flowers in the display. Insert them into the floral foam, ensuring that at least 1 to 2 inches of the stems are pressed into the foam. Adjust the flowers as necessary to create an attractive, full look.

    Complete the Finishing Touches

    • Use several filler flowers, such as baby's breath or foxglove, to fill in any gaps between the main flowers and those that surround the outer edge of the container. Step back from the arrangement periodically to determine if it has the right shape and looks properly balanced. Depending on the type of flowers that you have chosen for the arrangement, you may also choose to add interesting accessories, such as artificial fruit or foliage, which gives your arrangement added dimension, texture and visual interest.
