Ways to Decorate a Wall With a Letter

A single letter can jazz up any room in your home. Whether the letter is your last initial, the first letter of a child's name or you want to give yourself an A for decorating acumen, there are many ways to make and configure a letter guaranteed to stop traffic. Not only will you create an individual statement, but the materials needed to create any letter project may already be in your treasure trove of supplies.
  1. Vinyl Letter for the Bathroom

    • They're bold, easy to apply and flawless, and on top of that, you can apply a vinyl letter to porcelain and ceramic tile in just a few minutes and then reposition it if you don't like what you see. Dress up one of the most used rooms in the house with an oversize (at least 22 inches high) vinyl letter in a color that matches your towels or shower curtain. If your bathroom is feminine, a script "B" adds class and charm. Hang a giant "T" in a whimsical typeface like Curlz over your kids' tub so your vinyl letter does a little teaching too.

Stenciled Letter Art for the Kitchen

    • If you love to stroll craft stores or surf craft supply websites, you know that gigantic stencils are easy to find and are cheap. Use one to create a piece of art for your kitchen. Start by mounting a piece of fabric that's at least 12 inches larger than the stencil to a piece of cardboard, thick art board or another sturdy backing with fabric glue. Place your letter stencil atop the fabric, and use a stippling brush and fabric paint to transfer the letter. Now, frame and hang your one-of-a-kind art; you can add glass if you're worried about splashes.

    Wooden Letter for Baby's Nursery

    • Shop for the largest wooden letter you can find, decoupage medium and a foam brush to apply it. Trace the letter onto a piece of gift wrap or fabric, and cut out the silhouette. Trim down the paper or cloth letter slightly using pinking shears to give the edges a nice finish. Paint the letter a solid color. Apply the decoupage medium to the surface of the wood letter, and position the paper or fabric letter atop it so there's a little "frame" around the letter. Allow the bond to dry, and add one or more coats of decoupage medium to seal the paper or fabric, drying between applications.

    Cloth Letter for a Bedroom

    • Whether you're a whiz at quilting, you know your way around a sewing machine or you've got knitting skills you can take to the bank, create a pretty letter to hang over your bed using any of these techniques. Make your own letter pattern by finding a thick, sans serif capital letter you like, and keep enlarging it on a copier until it's the size you like. Sew, quilt or knit your letter. Use a material-appropriate starch or stiffening medium on the letter. Either hang it on the wall or mount a shelf over the bed and stand the letter up.
