Curtain Holdback Mounting Instructions

Curtain holdbacks serve several purposes in a well-planned room. This hardware not only holds the curtain out-of-the-way, but also provides an artistic element to the window, framing it with gentle curves of material. The holdback itself can be subdued, blending in with the material of the curtain, or it can be a bold contrast of color and form. Practicality may dictate the type of holdback you use because there must be room on both sides of the curtain to install this elegant accessory.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine what height you want to mount the curtain holdback. Have an assistant hold the curtain back to the edge of the window frame at different heights. Measure the distance from the spot you prefer to the ground.

Check the area next to both sides of the window at this height to ensure there's no obstruction. The hook of the holdback can extend past the window frame or be completely hid by the curtain, depending on your preference.

    • 2

Position the holdback on the wall at the determined height. Use the level to check that the holdback is horizontal to the floor.

    • 3

Mark the location of the screw holes in the holdback mount with a pencil.

    • 4

Remove the curtain holdback and check for a stud under the marks for the screw locations. If there is no stud where the screws will go, punch a small hole in the wall by putting the tip of the awl on the mark. Hold the awl perpendicular to the wall and tap the other end of the awl with a hammer. Don't expand the hole too wide, as you want the wall anchor to fit snugly.

    • 5

Place the tip of the plastic wall anchor with no screw inserted into the hole you made. Tap it gently with a hammer until it seats flush with the wall.

    • 6

Hold the curtain holdback so the holes align over the anchors. Insert the screws through the holdback and screw them into the anchors until the holdback is secure. Do not over tighten. Repeat for the other side.
