How to Fold a Towel Like a Pocket

If you have frequent house guests, or are opening up a bed and breakfast, learning to fold a towel into fun shapes is a great skill to have under your belt. The pocket fold is a common towel decorating technique. In the resulting pocket, you can add shampoo, conditioner, shower caps or other fun items. Place the folded towel flat on the bed, or hang it on the towel rack in the bathroom.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the towel on the bed with the tag side facing downward.

    • 2

Fold the bottom third of the narrow end of the towel (where the tag likely is, if present) up. It should lay flat on the bottom section of the towel. When you look down at the towel now, the top half is a single layer of towel and the bottom half is doubled. Smooth the bottom crease with your hands to remove any lumps.

    • 3

Turn the towel over so the folded side faces the bed. Be careful not to lose your fold as you turn.

    • 4

Fold the right third of the towel over onto the back of the towel. Smooth the edge of the fold to remove any lumps. The folded-over right third now reveals some of the pocket created by the initial fold in Step 2. Take hold of the corner of that bottom pocket flap and fold it back on itself. Hold it in place with your finger while you perform Step 5.

    • 5

Fold the left third of the towel over onto the folded over right third so they overlap.

    • 6

Leg go of the corner of the folded flap so it falls over the folded-over left third. Tuck the left third under the flap so it is relatively secure and both of the folded thirds line up.

    • 7

Flip the bottom half of the towel up so the bottom of the towel lines up with the top. The pocket lies in the front of the towel. Either hang it up by the crease you made with this last fold, or leave it sitting on the bed.
