How to Attach a Kitchen Towel to Knitting

A kitchen towel with a knitted topper gives a country look and feel to any kitchen. Using the topper, you can easily attach the towel to an oven or refrigerator door handle for easy access. Use worsted weight yarn for the topper to ensure that the yarn will wash and dry attractively when the towel becomes dirty. Attach the kitchen towel to the knitted topper with neat hand stitches to complete your project.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width of the knitted piece you wish to attach to the towel.

    • 2

Gather the edge of the towel along the edge where you wish to attach the knitted piece. Set the sewing machine to a basting stitch with the longest stitch length and sew about 1/2-inch away from the edge of the towel. Pull the basting stitches to gather the towel edge so the width of the towel matches the width of the knitted piece. Adjust the stitch length back to the standard length and stitch over the basting stitches to hold the gathers in place.

    • 3

Thread the needle with an 18-inch length of embroidery floss. Tie a knot in the end of the floss.

    • 4

Position the knitted piece over the gathered edge, overlapping it onto the towel by about 1/2 inch.

    • 5

Insert the needle through the towel, pulling the needle through until the knot stops on the backside of the towel.

    • 6

Stitch through the knitted piece and the towel along the entire edge to attach the two pieces together securely. Make your stitches about 1/4 inch long and evenly spaced. End the stitching with the needle on the backside of the towel.

    • 7

Tie a small knot in the embroidery floss and clip off the excess floss to finish attaching the knitting to the towel.
