How to Use Vaporizers and Diffusers

Vaporizers and diffusers are used in the home to disperse evaporated oil or medication through the air to lightly scent your room and are similar in basic function for aromatherapy. Vaporizers typically plug into an electrical outlet, while diffusers rely on inserted stems to release the oil's fragrance. The benefit of using a vaporizer over a diffuser is the increase in control of how lightly or heavily the scent fills the room, as well as the longevity of the oil.

Instructions

  1. Osmosis Diffusers

    • 1

Remove the cap of the oil diffuser's bottle. Insert 2 to 3 diffuser sticks into the bottle. The more diffuser sticks inserted into the bottle, the stronger the scent emitted into the air. Alternatively, insert a tissue into the oil's bottle to activate the diffusing process.

    • 2

Place the diffuser in the room you wish to scent. The lifespan of the diffuser ranges from 2 to 3 months once opened.

    • 3

Replace the diffuser after the directions' recommended replacement period to maintain the potency of the fragrance.

    Electric Diffusers

    • 4

Plug a miniature vaporizer into an available electrical outlet and insert the fragrance pad into the vaporizer's front slot. If using a larger vaporizer, set the vaporizer on a flat surface and lift the vaporizer's lid to open it.

    • 5

Place the scent pad into the device's tray and close the lid. Push down on the lid to secure the lid onto the vaporizer.

    • 6

Plug the vaporizer's power cable into an electrical outlet. Slide the power button on the device to choose the scent's potency.

    Heat-Based Diffusers

    • 7

Place 2 to 3 drops of scented oil into the bowl or in the ring of the diffuser.

    • 8

Place the ring on top of a light bulb to activate the oil if using a ring diffuser. If using an tea light diffuser, light the wick of a tea-light candle and insert the tea light into the diffuser. The flame from the tea light warms the bowl, which evaporates the oil.

    • 9

Allow the heat source to warm the oil for no more than 10 minutes. Blow out the candle or turn off the light to prevent burning the oil.

    • 10

Allow the diffuser's bowl to cool. Wipe the oil from the bowl with a paper towel or cleaning cloth.
