How to Decorate a Hutch With Colorful Plates

Base the display method on the number of colorful plates you have. If you have a smaller collection, use plate stands, which you can line up along the hutch shelf, and place the plates upright for display. Stack the plates if you have a large set. The rows of stacked plates will still add color.

Sort the plates by color. Devote each shelf to a different color or color family.

Use the bottom shelf of the hutch for stacking colorful plates in a large collection while devoting the upper shelves to lining up colorful plates on stands.

Alternate different colors of plates to create a rainbow effect on the shelves. Select a number of plates, each in a different color, to place in a row.

Vary the size of the colorful plates. Alternate big plates in one color with small plates in a different color as they line up in a row on the shelf.

Intersperse decorative accessories amongst the colorful plates to add variety. Choose accessories that match your style and other accessories in the room, whether its silver candlesticks, small figurines or glass vases.

Place a large colored plate in the back and a small different-colored plate in front of it and repeat the pattern throughout the hutch.

Display other colorful dishes along with the plates to show off different shapes. Place cups, serving platters or bowls onto the shelves of the hutch as well.
