Pick out the artwork you want to hang on the wall. Lay it out on the floor to see which arrangement looks best.
Balance different sizes of artwork by grouping large pieces opposite small pieces.
Group artwork that is similar in subject matter together.
Use a pencil to trace a template of each art piece with graph paper. Cut the template out.
Hang the paper templates on the wall with painter's tape to get an idea of how the art pieces will look on the wall.
Hang templates at eye level. Art should not be hung too high.
Tightly group an even number of art pieces together on a large wall.
Group an odd number of art pieces together horizontally over a sofa or in a hall entrance.
Group small and large pieces together in an oval-shaped pattern over a long table or a large bed.
When satisfied with the template arrangement, use push pins to mark where the picture hangers will go.
Remove the paper templates.
Hang art pieces, using picture hangers. Measure with a tape measure or ruler to make sure artwork is on the wall straight.
When grouping sculptures or accessories, put different shapes together on a table or desk, such as a round vase with a square box.
