Common Wall Sayings

• While there are a number of companies that manufacture metal wall sayings, there are some phrases that are commonly used. For a kitchen, some common sayings are "Bon Appetite," "Kiss the Cook," "Café Au Lait," and "Eat!" For a family room, common sayings include "Live, Love, Laugh" and "Believe, Hope, Dream." You could place the words "Friends," "Family," or "Memories" in an office or on a wall with lots of photos. "Sweet Dreams" is a nice saying for a child's room. Outdoor sayings hung on a porch or next to the front door include "Wipe Your Feet" and "Welcome."

Customized Sayings

• If you want a particular saying that you cannot find, you could make your own saying by purchasing metal letters. They come in a variety of sizes and colors. People often spell their child's name or initials to place above the bed. Perhaps there is a particular characteristic of a family member you want to spell out, such as "Sports Lover" or "World Traveler."

Metals and Finishes

• Metal wall sayings come in a variety of metals and finishes. Iron, steel and aluminum are common materials. Some sayings may be more flat while others more three dimensional. The metal may be finished or unfinished. Some common finishes include rustic, galvanized, aged rust or black-powder coated.

Tips

• Metal wall sayings may be hung on a wall, placed on a table or used on a mantle. If hanging on the wall, make sure it is an appropriate size for the wall. If it's a small saying over a large sofa, it will look odd. If the saying is only one word, perhaps include one to two other words to fill the space. Three words is typically enough for a metal wall saying. As a piece of art, this will often be the main focal point of the wall so don't add too many other pieces of art to overcrowd the space. Match the metal of the saying to other accent pieces in the room such as a table lamp base or coffee table legs. This ties the room together nicely.
