How to Decorate With Polka Dot Wall Stickers

Polka dot wall stickers enable you to add polka dots in any color to any room instantly, without costly or lasting results. Polka dots can add pizazz, spunk, interest or a bubbly mood to nearly any room when the dots are used in a creative manner without being overused. Infuse a small room, such as a bathroom, with bright polka dots for a refreshing and colorful approach, or add the dots to a baby or teenage girl's bedroom to project her youthful joy.

Instructions

    • 1

Paint the walls a light, neutral shade for a crisp look or a darker or brighter color for an eye-catching display. The wall color must work with the colors of your polka dot wall stickers since the paint will serve as the background for the dots. Allow the paint to fully dry for at least one to three weeks before applying the wall stickers.

    • 2

Place furniture in the room so you can plan the polka dots around it. You don't want to hide your display of polka dots behind your bed or massive entertainment center. You can also add polka dot wall stickers to most furniture if you want to dress up the entire room in dots.

Peel the back off the wall stickers, and press them onto the wall where you want them to go. Create a border around the room, or concentrate the dots on one wall to create a focal point, such as behind the sofa or bed. If you don't like the way the polka dots look, you can peel them off the wall and start over until you find an arrangement you do like. Overlap a few of the polka dots if you want to add a geometric design to the mix.

Include textiles that incorporate the same colors as the polka dots or actually contain polka dots as well. For example, hang solid black curtains in a fuchsia-colored bedroom with light pink, cream and black polka dots, and make the bed with a light pink and cream striped comforter and fuchsia sheets. Add a couple of round or polka dotted throw pillows to pull it all together.

Accessorize the room with a couple of polka dotted items, such as a turquoise lamp shade with chocolate and cream polka dots in a cream-colored living room that has chocolate and turquoise polka dots. Add a plain black wall sticker featuring a quote or name in script or a fun font if you want to add a hint of sophistication or personalization to the wall.
