How to Decorate With Yo Yo's

Although many Americans consider the yo-yo an iconic U.S. toy, yo-yos have been around for centuries all over the world. The toys have been found in ancient Greek art and throughout Asia. The yo-yo -- also called the bandalore or incroyable -- has been used as both a toy and a weapon. Yo-yos, both colorful and nostalgic, can add a quirky talking point to your home decor or brighten a child's room or play area.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a tall, clear glass vase with vintage yo-yos. Arrange the toys so various decals and discolored strings can show through the glass.

    • 2

Hang your favorite colorful yo-yos in a wall grouping at various heights. Stick a thumbtack in the loop of string then unroll and allow to hang.

    • 3

Glue the toys on top of a small, round occasional table in the horizontal position. Fill the top of the table surface with yo-yos. Place a glass top over the toys to provide a flat surface.

    • 4

Fill a shadowbox picture frame with yo-yos and display it on a wall. Separate by colors and hang a grouping over a sofa or in a bathroom.

    • 5

Hang a grouping of yo-yo-based artwork on the wall to create a playful space. Consider Todd Goldman's photographic print titled "19th Century Yo-Yo" and other vintage photographs of children playing with the toys.

Spotlight some of your yo-yo books on a coffee table or end table. The colorful colors of books like "The Ultimate Yo-Yo Book" by Larry Sayco will attract attention and enhance your décor.
